Peter & Kalli were referred to me by a friend and are actually getting married next month! I love when I’m given creative freedom, and that’s exactly what these two gave me. I had my eye on this coffee shop downtown Chicago on Jackson Blvd for at least a year and they had never seen it before and were excited when I took them, as they said it reminded them of some spots they traveled to recently. The string lights and atmosphere of that small space makes it feel like you are not at all in Chicago but at a bistro in France. We also took some of the popular shots on Lasalle Street Bridge to highlight their request for the architecture to be featured in the background. This session just proves that if you are willing to brave the low 40 degree temps in the middle of January and give your photographer some freedom, your session can be just as beautiful as a summer session. My favorite type of sessions are engagement sessions. They are not rushed and there is plenty of time for the couple to get relaxed and get to know me and how I photograph. They are unlike a normal wedding day which most of the time only allows for a small period of time to shoot photos of just the bride and groom. Wedding days can be very stressful and chaotic and many of my ideas go without execution because of the many fluid changes that get made last minute with time constraints. I always have high hopes for all the beautiful shots Ive created in my mind but with a structured day like a wedding day I can only create so much especially when a couple might already have photo requests. I always do my best to create at least some photo requests but as an artist I work best when given the freedom to create.
