Tarnvir & Kiki had one of the most monumental surprise proposals for so many reason. The surprise proposal took place at North Avenue Beach in Chicago and we the second location was at The Nature Boardwalk at The Lincoln Park Zoo.  Keep reading if you are wondering how to make your session look as good as theirs. I will break down everything that went right for this engagement session. If you are looking for the perfect location for your surprise proposal, check out my blog on popular Chicago locations here.

  1. We chose the perfect time of day, which was golden hour.
  2. Tarnvir chose a great time of year for a beach proposal. It wasn’t the busiest time of year ( Summer ) so the beach wasn’t extremely crowded with people.
  3. Tarnvir and Kiki elevated their looks by wearing formal wear and they styled it perfectly ( More on how to style the perfect attire for your session here ).
  4. Tarnvir booked a full session so there was time after the actual proposal to do portraits at multiple locations and we could take our time.
  5. They trusted the photographer ( ME! ) and their vision.

Golden Hour: There’s a reason photographers and videographers alike rave about golden hour. It’s that fleeting period just after sunrise and just before sunset when the light transforms, giving everything it touches a soft, golden glow. It’s often referred to as “the magic hour,” and for good reason. This unique light can elevate your photos from ordinary to extraordinary. Golden Hour falls at different times depending on the time of year, so must remember to research the sunset time for that day. If it’s a cloudy day, the golden hour will not take place so it’s unpredictable and will not be possible for every session.
